While I’ve not had the opportunity to get to know @lyndaweinman personally, her early books had a massive influence on my career.

When I first discovered the Web, all the resources available bar one were aimed at developers. The single exception were the Lynda.com books which were aimed at designers.

When I started learning CSS the only books available at the time were focussed on teaching people the language. However the examples they used failed to resonate with me as a designer as they were all super abstract and theoretical.

CSS Zen Garden wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for HotWired’s pioneering work. The Hotbot CSS skinning contest the group ran was… not well done, but it sparked an idea for a better way to do it.

I'd forgotten all about that that is a very interesting time of web history that should not be forgotten. Thanks for pointing it out Dave!
