Why are there so many self-taught developers these days? 🤔

These days? Many developers have been self-taught throughout history. And in the case of web development there's no standardized education. This has led to significant confusion and difficulty in maintaining good practices in any job much less when we move from job to job

Started in the 80’s. 100% self taught.

That's how it's done you should be very proud. I have pursued higher education and I love it but it does not measure real world application skills that can be learned on your own. It does expand critical analysis skills and depth of knowledge in various areas of study.

I’ve learned over many years of hiring and working with other developers that college can’t teach you to be a good developer. It can teach you the right things to say but like any art development is something you have to have an aptitude for.
