How many coders, devs, programmmers, IT peeps, technical design folks are also musicians and/or seriously in pursuit of music lifelong? Curious to know as for more than 30 years in tech I see a lot of crossover.

I played in a symphony orchestra at age 14... and was a music editor on several feature films... But less lately, too busy with vision projects—My "birthday present" to myself in 2019 was an 88 key weighted-action Yamaha piano/controller.. and I have yet to open the road case!

I've been looking into 88 key simple boards don't need many voices but a strong piano sound. Effects are less important than sound quality. Always interested in recommendations. Do you play it or does it stay in its case? I have two guitars cased one at the ready the rest stored.

While I used to be – and would love to be – a guitarist and occasional singer-songwriter, I’m more doing sound engineer duties as a bit of fun. BUT my guitars hang next to my desk now after years in storage, so I’ve started to play again.

I relate. I did get to record with local Indie labels. Kept in the Dark then Crash Landing Studios. My music career was kept in the dark then crash land hard into Web along with CLs @stevens_phil early HTML. No tables. No CSS, no JS. Mosaic and modems. 1994 was a hell of a year!

Lifelong music fan, but never really played an instrument. One of my goals is to learn to play the drums at some point in 2022!

Derek I can totally see you as a drummer. Ever listen to Tool or Watch Danny Carey tourist thing I used to think Neil Peart and Bill Beaufort we're great. Danny Carey is unspeakably precise and complicated such a Force. Look for the song pneuma live if you're not familiar.

Also me! Another cellist here. All my degrees are in music, but I did a coding bootcamp almost 5 years ago and have been working full time as a dev ever since. I take music gigs here and there, and know that it will always be a part of my life.

I'm so glad you're committed to both and to sustaining your musical interests along with your newfound coding interests. I think they enrich each other naturally. I know they do for me and it sounds like that resonates with a lot of people. 😊
