How many coders, devs, programmmers, IT peeps, technical design folks are also musicians and/or seriously in pursuit of music lifelong? Curious to know as for more than 30 years in tech I see a lot of crossover.

My niece played piano competively and is now working at Microsoft. She’s brilliant in both fields.

Perfect example! I started with classical piano and voice. Air guitar until I got an acoustic steel string guitar at around 17. My father excelled at complex math. Except at the horse races. He's the only family member who immediately saw and fed my interests in logic and music,

My degree is in Music Theory/Composition, and was primarily a music producer for the first 15 years of my adult life, before switching fully to web tech 10 years ago. I still dabble, but I’m too busy with software to really keep up my skills.

That happens a lot. Having done similar I really regret not continuing even dabbling for too many years. It's a lot more challenging to return as an adult just shy of 60. Keep dabbling is my thought!

There were so many instrument cases in the Brown Computer Lab after Orchestra rehearsal when I was there... including mine. :)

It's a truly interesting phenomenon. From an educator point of view it seems It's a way to bridge understanding between logical thinkers and creative thinkers stronger or dominance in one rather than hybrid intelligence that seems to get both seamlessly.

I've been a web developer for over a dozen years, and while I don't consider myself a musician, I've been an active participant in various choirs and vocal ensembles ever since high school.

Here's a statement to ponder 😊 All vocalists are musicians. But not all musicians are vocalists.

Lifelong musician – it’s been a lot of my living – and there has been plenty of crossover for me. For example, I’ve written stage musicals that involved synced audiovisuals and taught students to get started doing that.

You know who comes to mind is Laurie Anderson who did a lot of mixing of tech and music and Stage performance.
