I've never retweeted myself before and it feels odd but here we are. Anybody here ever write a user style sheet for themselves or anyone else?

Well see there was this thing in CSS called user style sheets that you could use to write your own styles that would override those provided specific to your needs. You can still do it. Why don't we know about it probably as the primary use case was largely for accessibility.

I've actually used a user style sheet as my primary ad blocking tech. Literally have basically used it since Firefox was called firebird. For a while I also used it to alert me to PDF links be appending a "[pdf]" to links too.

That rocks I love it! I wish people would publish user style if we had shared some basic ones like larger font sizes or specific contrast colors I think it would have been more conducive to their success.

I have! For a very old documentation site which was difficult to read. I added a max-width to keep the line length comfortable, and restyled the headings to better reflect the actual structure/hierarchy. But I only knew it was possible cos of a friend of a friend with low vision.

That's great that you did that and isn't it interesting that it turns out you had a friend with low vision who benefited from its use. Very cool.

Not for use in a browser, but yes in combination with a useful plug-in like Dark Reader. User style sheets in the browser are literally useless. What is needed is "adjust" properties which don't exist in CSS.

Useless in the browser well almost but actually some of us still use them. Maybe 3 people of the approximately 49% of humanity that's online 😉 but !important? It is so abused and misunderstood no. Lack of understanding of the Cascade or specificity algorithm or worse just lazy.

I love it, how Basic wisdom somehow never vanishes… Listen to the white Fairy of the Web. Her magic will work on, making Information accessable for everyone. Like it was intended in the beginning.
