Hiccups. A medical nightmare if chronic. Doctors treat them with anti-psychotics. I have a friend who cannot stop them. I want to help him but no home "remedy" has helped and he does not need antipsychotic drugs. Any ideas?

I watched a tv show as a child that tried lots of tricks and determined they all made you gulp oxygen and re-regulate your breathing. Since then I've always found long deep breaths to eventually work. Not sure on chronic hiccups though.

It's not working, alas. That would work for me. My friend? Not :(

this helped everyone I suggested so far (may not help if its a medical condition): - take a glass full of water - sit, sip and take one gulp at a time - give one second breath and move to next sip - each gulp doesn’t need to have lots of water. just small amount would do.

Spoon full of sugar... Tried. Char, I keep trying to find the next remedy. Tried so many remedies. Pickle juice. Drink upside down. There's a list I found online a few weeks ago and we've tried almost all of them. I'm worried.

Lauren, remember actor Paul Sorvino? He wrote a book long ago to help his daughter with asthma. I think they could help him build strength. He wants a medical remedy in the immediate now - he can't breathe or relax enough to start. :( Very astute idea.

Again, tried so many times. It can help him for a few minutes but never sticks.
