Absolutely agree, and have a longer list than just two things killing the dream. I call your point the year of the little e before c. eCommerce, feh. I especially hate the word monetize now. but I dislike predatory capitalists by design. Free market, OK, but how about an ethic?

Agree. I think a new model is needed. One where consumers hold their data and grant web entities limited revocable access to their data by contract. Consumers set what they're willing to provide. (I bought your book a long time ago by the way).

That idea is so logical I doubt most people would care for it. You know, like we care about specs any more. Web Standards aren't, maybe never really were. Which book? I wrote a few, I've forgotten most of them. Not even kidding 😎
