While in college, I was a feature writer for a national daily and web was the only industry who offered me a job because I could write. So, here I am. :)

What topics did you cover? I have a corrolary as a poet turning to writing and media as who hires poets? I'm glad you ended up here, as your voice is needed, necessary and powerful.

1995 — when I realized I could code & design at the same time. Which was radical. I loved coding, but had dropped out already due to sexism, + my desire to design. By ‘95, I was designing for theater and print… when I saw the web & HTML… self-publish to the world!? I was in. 😍

It hurts to read you dropped out due to prejudice. How about now? Do you feel more welcome now? There's a lot of news recently about the "Great Resignation" "Tech Exodus" related to company culture. Interesting at a time as inclusion and diversity are hot social topics.

1999. I started in a small agency, decorating shop landing pages (I wouldn’t call it designing or developing 😂). Originally, I had wanted to serve in the army, but when that fell flat I wanted to do “something with computers” and went for two years of IT training. I liked it.

1995. I was the programmer in a startup and was assigned the company website as one of my duties. Learned how to do layout with tables, sorry to say. Started writing web stuff for the next company in addition to writing gateways in C++.

I built my first website in 2002. I made the decision in the mid 2000s, but started to professionally work in the Web Industry in 2012. Between the mid 2000s and 2012 I finished an apprenticeship as management assistant and acquired a Bachelor’s degree in Multimedia Production.

would not have happened if not for a student project in @humphd's open source development class, which provided more exposure to cool stuff that was going on in the web. Honestly it seemed a lot cooler back then than it does now

1994, someone showed me a website with images. I said "I want that," and the only way to get it was to learn how to do it myself. But I kind of fell into it as a career after having to leave academia.
