There are thousands of people without electricity here in Tucson right now and I'm one of them in a very hard hit Area what confounds me and I need some explanation of is why we lose power when it is not provided by the electric company. We are supposed to be fully solar here.

Solar energy is powered by solar panels, to create direct current (DC) electricity. Most homes run on alternate current (AC) electricity, DC is converted to AC thru an inverter. Solar panels cannot serve as a backup if AC electricity goes out during inclement weather.

Thank you Carol that makes so much sense now I understand. I am glad that there's at least an offset here with the solar considering where we live in Tucson you think we'd have it sooner but it took being able to resell it for profit to make it attractive makes me sad.
