Modern refers to anything within the recent past or so whereas contemporary is more specific to the Here and Now. So the wording is not wrong per se. Now brexit however? Contemporary agony, modern problem, today's bulshit, tomorrow's awful. :-(

The end of the article concerns me when they mention encryption SBC security. The Brexit document refers to outdated security and encryption methods. A really bad and dangerous copy/paste

That's more than a fair assessment and concern. Most of these articles make good points and then fumble when it comes to technical specs. I'm not a security gal so I don't really know but Netscape is a defunct browser. Modern contemporary old aging none of those 👀 it's dead.
