I’m curious - Who of you have been called kiddo as an adult? As someone who is nearly 40 I have been called kiddo repeatedly in professional settings increasing as I’ve grown older. Can someone help me understand why this is such a common name men use towards grown women?

Actually I use it a lot I didn't realize I was being rude or demeaning it's a form of affection to me. I also still use the word girl which upsets a lot of my women friends but I like it it keeps me young. All humans have bias and I'm no exception. Thanks for the challenging idea

A good example of our beautiful complexities as humans! No simple answers as it’s so situational. A good reminder for me to check in with my relationships, get curious about others and to advocate if I need something different.

The fact that you asked at all proves that I wish people would be more forthcoming and honest it would just simplify things and also it's more expedient. You don't want something you say no that's it done no interpretation no over-analysis what did he mean by that? Hate that! :-)

I appreciate you sharing your perspective. Related: I don’t feel an affinity to professional groups that use the word “girl” in the title, especially when they advocate for women in tech. If girl is in the title then I assume the group serves K-12.

No doubt a contentious term these days when used to describe women. I do it. It feels youthful when I don't! I don't like to use language to offend unless intended. In common, not-at-work speech do you think we should step up women in place of girl? For tech and dignity, I woud.
