This shit's horrible. If you don't trust your employees then you (1) aren't hiring the right people and (2) are an employer undeserving of the loyalty and productivity you seek. Also (3) it's fuckin creepy so don't do it.

Completely agreed. Not only should people fight this kind of thing but be willing to lose their jobs in the process because there has to be at some point of tipping the scales of balance toward the worker.
