What will an 'American Jew' answer when people start saying "Go back to Israel?"

It depends. "I'm an American" is probably the correct answer but it didn't work out for German Jews. "From where did you come?" or "tell me about your native American ancestry" or "When you'll return to X" or when talking won't suffice come to Israel, you'll be welcomed.

What a kind and lovely response. I get in enough trouble with my governmental attitudes as it is. And since my medical documents now read "Latina" - heading south seems a good choice ;-) I hope you are well!

Reminds me of a very bizarre story of an English-raised man from India in Manchester screaming over his phone at a support person in India to "learn to speak English" People are so strange. And ignorant as a point of pride.
