Maybe I'm just a grumpy ol' greybeard (as it were) but I'm really hating this "computer connected to clouds" era. It's created a black hole of technological suckage in terms of #security #privacy and #Access as well as #A11y. What do you think? #TuesdayThoughts #TechTuesday

My sincere belief is this: The suckage to which you refer has always existed. Simply centralizing the old architecture and calling the results "cloud" 1) consolidates the suckage and draws attention to itself; 2) compounds the damage said suckage may cause.

That's a fair assessment and I don't think we're doing much to stop the said damage by NOT talking about it. But that's me ;-)

A cloud is just a data center, a little beyyer than the grandma of them all, tymeshare

Yes, it's just that, except now AWS owns all the data. Including the most personal, which I could care less about as I knew privacy was a dead issue long before the Web ever was. But I have no one to protect, and others do. Privacy is very personal in fact and malicious deed.

With the cloud you have to have an always on internet connection & it needs a certain minimum for upload & download speeds

Exactly true, as I'm finding living in a very poor spot for connectivity. It's great for natural beauty though! :D

I agree 100%. I’m in the middle of editing an article I’m writing about #a11y and color contrast. Needs some more polishing I think. We have lost all privacy I feel, security isn’t too far behind with all these data breaches. What’s next? 🤷🏻‍♂️

Todd, I gotta tell you dear friend of the ages, I truly have learned one of the hardest of ways NOT to ask "what's next?" lest we tempt those fickle fates 😎
