What demographic in the USA is poorest, making up nearly 1/4 of poverty based on race? No searching - take a guess!

Ah, I should have known. That's not at all surprising in hindsight.

We don't talk about it as it's our shame. My husband was Cherokee, Hopi and a splash of Scots. Grew up on reservation sent to Vietnam at 17 (Cambodia, but we weren't there...) Younger than Sir Bone Spur, took 51 years for him to become totally paralyzed and die a traumatic death.

It's often said that the United States was built on top of the slavery of blacks and the genocide of natives. The slavery part is well known these days, hence my initial guess, but the genocide part is still systematically swept under the rug.

I was privileged enough to catch a few glimpses of Native American culture during my travels to the United States, and it's an infinite shame that we systematically destroyed it.

I live in a little circle surrounded mostly by Tohono O'Odham and Pascua Yaqui as well as lots of smaller ones. I love it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missio… You can see how close I am to the border here too. Humans are predators (and not at the top of the food chain).

I do somewhat envy you :-). I've visited Arizona many times, and it's one of my favourite states in the United States. I don't quite understand why, but I feel drawn to the desert there.

It'll be a while before I'll be able to visit again, as I'm trying to start a business, and so currently without income. Should I ever find myself in Arizona again though, I'd love to take you up on that offer. At the very least, we could share dinner.
