We don't talk about it as it's our shame. My husband was Cherokee, Hopi and a splash of Scots. Grew up on reservation sent to Vietnam at 17 (Cambodia, but we weren't there...) Younger than Sir Bone Spur, took 51 years for him to become totally paralyzed and die a traumatic death.

It's often said that the United States was built on top of the slavery of blacks and the genocide of natives. The slavery part is well known these days, hence my initial guess, but the genocide part is still systematically swept under the rug.
