I went nonverbal for a bit today, which got me thinking again about the lack of good TTY speech synthesizer interfaces on Linux. Everything's too damn clunky for use as a primary speech device.

I really like GNUStep's "say" command; it's what I've been using lately, since it's the least-clunky solution. I'd really like a friendly wrapper for it. Something that just gives me a prompt, lets me say words and repeat them if necessary...

I've written something VERY basic already, using what little I remember of the half a semester I spent as a computer science major:

AAC update:
I've switched over to espeak for my AAC needs, since it runs on Linux/Android and is a bit more understandable. A consistent voice, and it's Klatt synthesis!
