Younger Futhark - as to why @csswg is researching it, not sure. Possibly in reference to using specific characters as ideograms?

Okay, I think I’ve got it. Neo-Etruscan, and @csswg is putting effort into understanding it for possible use in responsiveness, device orientation, and transforms. Or, it’s being researched for more broad support in rendering ancient languages for publishers/scholarly web
