In Arizona and Nevada (I'm from Brooklyn) I watched as the police became more and more militarized. Yes, it's a culture of fear-mongering Fear breeds hate. How can a Border Patrol agent let a 7 year old girl in custody DIE? Fear mongering is at the heart of our very uncivil war.

Yeah it's an interesting thing to see, and of course connects to the racism and white supremacist modes of thought. Easy to turn people monstrous when you traffic in fear

People are afraid of me and have been most of my life. I'm loud, opinionated and open my mouth when I see injustice. I have never raised my hand to a living person however (well siblings as kids) and choose MLK JR. style over Malcom X though both appeal to me at times! :D
