one of my first big projects had a contractual requirement for section 508 compliance. in addition to making everything accessible, it made the UI so much 1) cheaper to build and maintain and 2) a far more straightforward UX

this was before HTML5 which obv *greatly* improved things thanks to the work of @mholzschlag and others. ugh but those battles with product owners over date pickers

Seriously, it's not like there isn't MEANING (AKA SEMANTICS) to the &*E#:: language when well understood and well used. Which in a Javascript Framework Just Click Here For Your DropDown crap is exactly that, crap.
