Indeed. Women in general get short shrift but African Americans aren’t even listened to much less validated. The developer in me just problem-solves. I have trouble comprehending how 1+2 doesn’t equal 3.

This is a huge thorn in my side. I've fought browsers and W3C over lack of encouragement and outreach from a hiring perspective. I swear there's an attitude that black folk don't use much less develop for the Web. I think the W3C has had ONE black member in its history. SHAME!

1) We are trying to hire a new FE dev. Not one candidate I interviewed was female. I need to ask if any of the phone screens were.

2) last month I was talking to a guy who was hiring and he told me the perfect candidate was sitting in his department but she hadn’t applied. I strenuously encouraged him to make his case to her. He didn’t understand why. I explained to him why. He still didn’t grok it.
