A site may use Web protocols but if money or TOS, walled garden. If CAPTCHA or 2 factor with one means to access? Not a site at all if we go by, say, design principles? To paraphrase Sir Tim Berners-Lee, we failed the Web, it did not fail us. What are we doing 33 years on? #A11y

If you are in #security #privacy #opsec #webdesign #webdevelopment or any web related profession, please provide alternatives to 2 factor authentication and device specific, vendor driven, not aware or just don't know to go the extra mile for users no matter what? Here's a fact:

While 2 factor authentication might be a necessary evil, like CAPTCHA without alternatives to visual only, the site is now not available, not usable, not anything. It might as well be non-existent, and the process of different devices is, for many with #a11y needs? Failure.

When we build sites and limit access, it's accessibility. In fact, availability is a synonym - to access something means it must be available to access. This practice of not having alternatives such as email verification or the entire 2 factor - meaning more than one device? WTF?

This is not just a security or privacy concern with mobile numbers, too many passwords stored by browsers, often to cloud services, completely hackable, but to close availability to Web sites - many social, medical, and utility related, well, hello ACCESSIBILITY FAIL #a11y

From @simonw when still at University and loving on Python, at the time thought too quirky for most (ha! now huh?) to the infamous Frank Abegnale when still with the FBI in cybercrimes - passwords should not exist as we enter 2023. Much less 2 factor authentication voice or SMS?

Changing my phone number would not be so big a deal but for the hours I can sit at the desk, around two 3-5 times a week, making me slow as well as sick and old (truth lol) the 2 factor authentication when only the phone number for voice or SMS verification? That is a nightmare

Make me laugh. Between Arizona political endless b.s., tech support that is the 10th circle of hell, shortening of daylight here, well, color me irritated. So, make me laugh! You know you want to. ;-)

@Tracfone @Verizon @verizonsupport once more in 2 weeks, please assist me. Need a human. I just need APN info. I've done 2 weeks of everything you asked including buying a new phone from you replacing dead phone. Dead phone is my # and I can't get verified without it. Verify me.

Thank you Cheryl. So it's not just me. What's so f'd up is that it's just a matter of giving me APN info. Idiots. @Verizon @VerizonSupport (they own @Tracfone ) and could manage this too, but I'm exhausted and upset and without 2f auth no verification for a lot of needed services

I don't know what to do with this. I can't do it anymore, they took my money, they have my number, I am locked out of web sites, I have a major medical situation here, and Veteran's day and Ray's birthday would have been next week. I just give up on hoping for any help, anywhere.

I tried, two weeks. The only human (I think) to respond were on Twitter, where I guess Elon Musk is the only one who gets real attention. If screaming were valued, I'd have support. No support. Two fucking weeks running around to even @Walmart "We aren't Tracfone support" yeah.

So @VerizonSupport and @Tracfone won't restore my number but keep sending me to automated support, walmart, or lying, taken money for nothing left me aging, disabled and alone with no service and won't restore my number essentially locking me out of 2f auth. Seriously fucked up.

I"VE DONE THIS. I"VE DONE EVERYTHING. YOU ARE THE FAIL. SHAME SHAME SHAME. Disabled, aging, Widow of a Veteran as Veteran's Day looms and this is your excellence? I don't think there's anything excellent about anything you've done but taking my money and giving back NOTHING.
With what phone? And how is this different than the two weeks I've tried using Google Voice sent to the one number I have? Tracfone is endangering my life here, people. NO assistance for the disabled, aging, not at all wealthy as in poor? A Veteran's Widow no less. Shame on them.
