Poll time! Let's say you have private medical and personal information on a .gov portal for health care services, like Arizona's @AZDHS. But, a third party uses their site and email to manage some of your case needs. You get calls and SMSs asking your care portal's password. You:

Reliance on linear perceptions (time is a great example) excludes every other alternative falling into "non-linear" - this thinking is exclusionary out of the gate. A line as expressed geometrically in 2D versus human potential in reality? Orders of magnitude of difference.

I have to muse on that. I fall into what I refer to aas 'rabbinical reactionary syndrome (rrs)' as I call it when subjects I wallow in and am writing about get tossed at me from smart kids in the room. As you just did ;-)

A big reason I left applied #webdesign and #webdev and went into writing, education, browser and standards advocacy was because I just sucked SO hard as a designer or non-declarative programmer. I revisited here and there, found I sucked worse! If I fail, I know it affects lives.

I also think that that cognitive dissonance you're describing is actually black and white thinking. By only making a top and a bottom you're not allowing for the diversity of what comes in between which is a lot more than just the middle wouldn't you say?

And governments and Nations and laws get in the way sometimes because a website is not a theoretical. An application in use is not just did a application and use its human beings and machines communicating dictated by the laws of culture community and Nation.

No not at all if anything it was an expected strong opinion and it was part of the reason I was uncomfortable to begin with. I don't know I disagree with you and that is why I'm emotional not because you expressed it in any way that upset me:-)

Higher order thinking and cognitive dissonance may be one thing but bring that into the real world and allow it to shade the way a nation or an industry works is not higher order thinking it is in fact action fully colored by bias and stupid human tricks called heuristics.

I struggle with morale related to the Web's wavering between social ideals of Open and Net Worth predation. It freezes me in my work as an advocate of Open. I become dissolusioned. #NFTs #A11y failures, behavior I don't understand. What do you think? Are we here to help or hurt?

What's especially interesting about the SMS transcripts related to this issue is how I am relentlessly told by the 3d party. individual on my @AZDHS case that I should learn how to use email and a browser. I need some backup, friends. This outright prejudice is making me cry.

I used a good word for the way I feel. This tweet, just the conversations about the issue in general and the act itself has indeed made me very uncomfortable.

The Arizona Deparment of Health Services uses a company asking for my password, sending emails using the ADHS .gov email, a site section sure to horrify #a11y and #accessibility legal and social advocates. Abusive, ageist, ableist and ADHS is unresponsive @elliott602az @AZDHS

Yes, it is. But the open web and advocacy thereof has disintegrated. For me, it's caused deep disillusionment and I've seen the same reflected in our industry. There is pushback (Mozilla's move to social activism for example) but Net Worth > Meaningful Work. In Jersey speak? FTS!

He is free to do what he likes. I just feel it's a strange move that is antithetical to the open web he envisioned.
