Worse to me? 25 script elements in both head and body all with inline JS. That's not creep. FULL BLOAT. Welcome to popular webdev v.2021

There is a department of redundancy department going on. I question motive of spec authors. We HAVE to include the img element in HTML as text for compat. Please allow me to introduce myself, I'm a DTD of semantic wealth and fame? LOL

The structure is expressed in strict not loose markup. Strict can be thought of as formal language, loose as vernacular. If it were served as xml/xhtml, this markup should not cause a parsing error. I find that helpful to learning personally, but it is so hated by many. :)

You just bridged semantic markup to stricter use of HTML syntax! (figure block, img inline). More rigor. One of many points of contention between HTML served as text v XHTML served as application/xhtml+xml. Error forgiveness vs. draconian error handling. (heh, she said draconian)

Heh. Specificity algorithms for ALL THE THINGS!

I AM SO MAD at that too. Why show me over a user? User is heh, !important (not not important :D) I'll wait to weigh in as it's so interesting to read the different thinking we all think :) MissUxo/m

Caught the nuance there! Why might it be wise to be more descriptive in one description vs. the other?

Is this more or less meaningful TO YOU than only an image element and req'd attributes? <figure> <img src="images/ennishouse.jpg alt="photo of Ennis House by architect Frank Lloyd Wright"> <figcaption>A photo of Ennis House by architect Frank Lloyd Wright</figcaption> </figure>

It's important to also point out meaning in a given language shifts from region to region, nation to nation, culture to culture. Semanticists also examine vernacular meaning ('common gloss') versus formal meaning. It's complex critical analysis which is hard for many or disliked.

Advocate literacy. Study Logic, Proofs, Linguistics. Learn (my generation did, USA rarely teaches it now) grammar and how to diagram a sentence. Use a dictionary and a thesaurus. Share, present, revisit. We humans do this because of our unique thinking! I do it hourly or more :)

IT IS THE issue in declarative languages for the Web. Yes to fussy, no to changing semantic to accurate because words do have mutliple meanings. Accuracy is more like specificity in this context. Logic x meaning = semantics. Semantic accuracy is choosing a specific meaning. :)

What words would have been logical and not shift meaning - which causes abstraction and confusion when we want clarity? Not easy, which in part is why we end up grabbing a term without applying Logic as in writing proofs. Language as a science uses logic, linguistics, algebra.

What we truly mean is "My thinking has significant difference." Logically, all individuals think differently in some way. In #a11y what we are attempting is to define a different kind of, well difference! We want to raise awareness. To be understood and accomodated with empathy.

Another example in #a11y that is shifting meaning without logic is "neurodivergent" I'm not imposing on anyone's identity. Not my place. Just a semantic study. Neuro: related to nervous system. Divergence: different, unlike. Literal: My relation to nervous system is differerent.

This tweet from Victor regarding negation of semantics is a very common response. Semantics is the meaning and logic of language. Is is logical to describe race as color/light? I'm disabled. Have I no abilities? Is inclusive exclusive? Does Universal Design meet all needs? #a11y
You know, I have actually met some who think of semantics in a negative light as in “oh, it’s just semantics”. How do we combat that attitude? :)

Literacy is a big factor, as is repetition of inaccuracies. We humans are prone to believing what we hear, see, read, taught as fact but not fact. Many examples. I also really really want anyone in declarative language to take at least a college level intro to Linguistics course.

How do we "combat" this attitude Victor? Start easy. My mom was a Ph.D. of English. She published 7 lit-crit books, wrote 3 novels, countless essays, poetry. If I'd asked that? She's have said you know where the dictionary is, Molly. And pick up her book and continue reading!

A couple weeks back I tweeted thta disability means "no ability" or "apart from ability" reply "I don't do semantic arguments." Hello! That is a semantic argument. I suspect many folks assume but don't know the meaning of semantics or what semantics mean. Yes folks that's a clue!

Oh my dear. Derek, are you actually suggesting HTML be semantic? HORROR! SHOCK! DISMAY! 😂 Next up: Specificity algorithms for HTML. I actually think specificty in all language prevents communication breakdown. Semantics mean *everything* <pun/> ;-) xo/m
