Yes! And I counter ask ya my dear Chris: Aren't society's problems reflections of our own and back again? Also "Why?" is a very uncomfortable question if we think only one answer can exist, which is a human bug reflected in society via separatism, racism, ableism - most any "ism"

Why did you choose/end up in #webdev #UX #a11y etc. It wasn't any profession much less in existence until I was 30 and for a year it was Lynx on a terminal. Design and complex stack dev just did not exist. Content did. Links did. People worldwide did. So why? Passion? Money? Fun?
This list plus @mholzschlag - all showed me that there was a community of people thinking about WHY we do what we do

Influential for other applied skills. My formal #design edu was light tables, xacto knife, rubber cement, t-squares, photoset for type :-) #UX for computers? No PCs then - punch card computing! For me, Web seems lacking in design and loaded with problems related to #UX and #a11y.

To flip a saying I've heard you use around, Jared - thank you for encouraging my *good* behavior ;)

Ha! And I have hilarious, wonderful tales from those years. In fact, when I fall into my darkness, poking me for an anecdote would be very helpful as we all of us now know isolation and what it does to identity and self-esteem. Make me share our stories - the fun ones especially.

Yeah, Twitter could make that feature more useful and findable in general.

I first met @Jmspool in 1999 when he and Jakob Nielsen did a duo battle talk for the "Web Show" confs. I spoke with Jared after. He insisted he wasn't a "web" guy. Yet, early on saw #HTML and #CSS as intrinsic to Web #UX. He put me and @meyerweb up to co-presenting. Good times!😀

Late to the share but must shout out to @Lynda @Zeldman @Meyerweb @Veen @peterme @cwodtke @JaredSpool @GotoMedia @Khoi @NickF @BruceL (co: 'Usability Speaks') @Mezzoblue (co: 'Zen of CSS Design') and so many more significant early influencers for Web #UX #Design folks.
Who would you like to thank in the #UX or #design industry? Why? #uxtalk

Also, it's an extra step but makes a world of difference to folks using screen readers - add alternative text when posting image based content. When adding a photo on Twitter you should see "add description" and you can then quote the image in the dialog. File under "better" ;-)

We need a "how to be better" algorithm ;-)

An interesting group just proving my speculation that whatever foundations I provided are now advancing so far beyond my chemotherapy years, much less where some of us oldies began! So many new people, ideas and methods to learn again and anew. I am truly grateful for community🥰

It's working for me and I'm atypical with rapid, pressured speech, stuttering, absence seizure and hypoxia related pauses - it adjusts! As Nicholas said some manual editing is needed but I'm impressed. I'd have to edit anyway with my Academy meets New Jersey Street vernacular. 😉

I haven't tested the app itself for #a11y screen reader issues, but the #UI is decent visually and very easy to use for me so far.
Glad to know that! So far, it seems smooth. And I have pressured speech issues, it's keeping up! Nice to see at least some options/alternatives popping up as I try things out. Some free audio-to-text options too, time-consuming but still could help others, and meet my own needs.
Anyone using otter.ai for #voice #transcription? It's browser-based so it fits my hunger for something cross-platform. It is a paid service with 600 minutes free per month. It's useful. Looking at others too. So far, it's kept up with my mouth! #a11y (FYI @vavroom)

Different strokes? Talk therapy is falling out of favor in patients with trauma as it can truly retraumatize to scary declines in condition. Not to mention OCD ruminators fixate enough on our own. Like I need to talk MORE? ;-) I for one need OUT of brain chatter and analysis.

I'd love to know more about this point of view. I was in talk #therapy for decades with pharmacological horrors and then began treatment using other methods. #CBT #ArtTherapy #Yoga #Mindfulness all do not retraumatize me personally. Very curious as to experiences and data. ThxU!
Yo fellow therapists, we all agree that CBT is some gaslighting, toxic positivity bullshit right?

Why not? Let's get it into the spec. It would be good to use as a flag when an #a11y hard stop is ahead :)
