Personally, I avoid this or touch on it lightly due to the nature of the pain point in the reason this lost art got lost. But yes, it matters so much! It's also an issue that had to be "added" via Ethan, etc. and was not scalable in the initial infrastructure. Adaptation wins!

That was also the famous quote that Tim berners-lee said at the London Olympics and nobody knew who the hell he was in and especially the us Talking Heads it was so embarrassing to me

Oh hell yes please. I'm old school graveyard and I do not believe in this web but we will talk about that this evening or if folks can't make it it will be placed on YouTube at some point and I will make sure to post the link. I'm so happy to hear people thinking this way again!

It's amazing isn't it now we have almost a monoculture completely across browsers and we still don't have interoperability. This is in the slides but thank you that puts a nice polish on what I was thinking thank you again yay

Another excellent point. For many isolated and ill folks, to be able to continue contributions and the joy of the relationships beyond the IRL is downright uplifting! Go us, oh yeah ;-)

This looks great Sean! I may have to use it in my Ph.D. prep. I just got an email and I'm going back to school! Time to sharpen my pencils! Oh wait... ;-) Thank you so much!

I'm and open source educator. And learner. And I learn more when I can do a little here and there than anyone else lol! Thank you so much for the reminder. We've all been isolated, me for much longer alas. But excited to do anything relevant again for our community!

No, of severe disability actually. I do have the privilege of knowing and having lived the most awesome career ever, so that does factor in. But volunteering is all I can manage, I cannot commit hours beyond that to go back to work. Also, I always did things free or sliding scale

Mary, I am very concerned. We get our act together in the USA quite a bit more now, and Canada and UK and Australia, sheeeesh. Where are these guys coming from? Send them to a remote location and let them live out their days!
Need some input and you may get quoted ;-) What do you feel are the most important or the most important needs we should retain as we evolve the Web? Choices can be from any area of Web design, dev, UX, #a11y etc. Thank you!

This is great advice Amanda. I work for free these days as I retired, unretired and now just "tired" ;-) so I sometimes get tunnel vision.
Likwise m'dear! It'll be on YouTube after at some point, how's the weather in Georgia? The north and southwest got slammed with snow yesterday. Climate change much? :P

You did what I just described. It's a socratic style, or in my case, rabbinical (10 rabbis, 10,000 opinions lol) Can be a cultural means to argue many sides of a given issue. The process is known to promote critical thinking (we need it!)

I have the enthusiasm! Y'all have the knowledge. I tend to "moderate" a sesson while learning all I can from YOU! (truth!) I remember that talk at UGA! Fun. Also, I weighed 235 pounds. Dropped to 104 in 16 months. and now up to 125 Chemo cachexia FTL? LOL I called it the DIEt ;)

Hi There :) Via Meetup - and I'm out of practice big-time with presenting live or online (2016 was the last time) so I'm hoping for some insight and practice prior to this evening! I do know re: automatic captioning but both is good too!

I'm preparing my slides for this evening's tech talk (100 signups, gobsmacked me, I don't know how to absorb that just yet but thank you so much) I'm wondering if @segdeha can facilitate a volunteer ASL interpreter too, or just me presenting or? If possible, I want your hands! :)

Sure sure go ahead and laugh all you want at the girl in Arizona freezing at freezing and in all of five minutes of impressive enlarged chunks of snow coming from the sky but I dare you to try anything over 117 degrees hahaha good luck that's my time to laugh ;-)

Considering we're in a severe drought any precipitation is a blessing for sure but this is definitely climate change. Deserts tend to show it first and here we are hottest driest year on record was 2020 and the year before was the same record but we had more rain. Crazy and cold!
