I love this. And, it's idyllic. Humans are dissonant. I see this so rarely manifest. I can achieve word/act and I can fail miserably.
The algorithm was created for that very reason. !Important is #a11y related to balance user/author styles. User styles never flew high so co-opted. I hate !important syntactically.
It's problematic for many reasons one being way too easy to abuse.
Arizona has a story trending no anecdote can beat. Turns out - our Governor is a Hologram! Imagine that? If you think I'm kidding - see #DougDuceyHologram We are and always have been a political shit show. This one is bizarre and not funny at all when we're 49th in education.

It's fun for me, glad some folks enjoy 'em. Eric features in many of the funniest stories of all. :D

To lie down with paupers To dine with kings An unexpected reality Of intensity and extremes Despite any pain I'd not trade a single day.

More than one! There's a reason we have "war rooms" :)

I've been invited back to conferences just to tell funny stories about Eric's wit ;-)

I predate both. Laura Lemay, Linda Weinman and Harley Hahn (Internet Yellow Pages). My own first Web book was 1996. I'd raise you a Veen, a Meyer and Liz Castro for that era. :D

Then there are the known contrarians: Winer and Canter. We all argued, but Marc and I got along likely as we argued Union style from strongly pro-Union families I used to make WaSP folks buy virtual rounds every time someone mentioned Winer. Arrington always seemed grumpy.

There's some epic history. Same year too - you and I met later I think? I never met Don Norman. I did meet Steve Krug in New York. Loved his book, him not so much. Pre 9/11. There's a great pic of Zeldman and me both with. long curly hair. "What a time it was.." When did we meet?

It wasn't pleasant or balanced. Weird and uncomfortable for everyone. I purposely avoided Jakob for all my days. But Jared was hugely influential in my life. He was the one to suggest @meyerweb and I co-present which we did for several years beyond UIE.

So true Faruk! And imagine my first exposure was a session in 1999 in Pasadena when he and Jared Spool went face to face on UX. I'd never met either prior so that was a bit of strange alright!

My career has been blessed with anecdotes and strange encounters. I should share more of the funny ones. I don't know if I was liked, tolerated or so fearless and odd myself but I was fortunate as an outspoken woman. A few rare exceptions - Jakob Nielsen tops my not funny list.

I spoke at a conference on #CSS as Douglas Crockford was presenting #JSON - I knew his work and he wasn't yet so controversial. Oh so shy me (ha) asked him if there were slides. He took a biz card, grabbed a pen, and wrote the notation spec on the back of it and handed it to me!

Bingo! That is exactly the point and goal I hope to articulate and help with using some process. I also believe dev tools are so over the top even I break down and want to just give up and resort to inline styles. I have once or twice when still actively developing for work.

When we can but don't read, learn, engage, challenge and seek out opposing and different ideas, we suffer, not find bliss. If ignorance was bliss, the world would be very blissful right now. Affluence seems to make ignorance worse, not better.
