I figured it out. He's suspending a CBD extract oil - must use Industrial Hemp? - in olive oil. Explains color, taste and the thinner oil.

That is a tincture, not a pure oil extract. Tinctures can and often do have more vegetation and taste. This is oil: clearconcentrate.com/

Hmmm. There's something known as the "entourage effect" The 1:1 ratio proves more effective. That dark just for CBD? He needs to purge more.
If not, suggest finding high CBD with a 1:1 THC ratio oil - much better for pain treatment, doesn't taste as bad. Charlottes Web is a brand.
