I too was physically and emotionally abused by both parents and then some. It makes for an unstable start to life. Hard to course-correct.

Truly sorry for that pain and trauma. It stays with us, and it does get better at times too. The last years? Mostly relentless suck, though.
I think it's more prevalent in empathetic people - ones that internalize other sufferings beyond their own. IQ and madness often are joined.
