I wonder if this is a life passage thing? Like a midlife crisis but not a crisis so much as a making peace with the "self" as it were?

That is helping a lot. Isolation right now for me is absolutely an act of self-protection. It will pass. I love people. Just not near me atm

I placed a lot of value on human ideals and not enough on actual humans. I put others on pedestals they didn't deserve. I'm stopping that.

Did you change anything? That's so wonderful! It happens - many probs like that do ease up with age. Chronic/Major Depression both can!
Are you alone a lot (I am) by choice or circumstance? I can't tell just yet. I'm in serious human avoidance mode as people make me feel this

Absolutely. And the more empathetic one is, the more it intensifies. It's a roller coaster of extremes, but I'd rather feel deeply than not.

It's made my humor very dark, but it was always dark. Now it's just a lot darker. I still laugh every day. That is important :)

That's very true, and wise. And the suffering happens. We find the joy we can but sometimes it's a huge struggle through the depression.

It's very hard not to focus on the negative. Lot of ugly going on. Also, that blame the other thing is more than less common in humans.
