Companies will shut people up and out who speak out against an approach. If the criticism is true, and the org won't adapt they will falter.
You have lived, though. That's something. I'd rather have this interesting life than it be boring and mediocre!

He wrote me a letter while hiding under furniture during the coup. He left the Foreign Service not long after. Brutal experience.

Can only imagine! I have a friend who was with the Foreign Service in Burkina Faso (Ouagadagou specifically) during the 80s coup.
Having internal relationships and being there under an "authority" does make travel in disrupted nations a bit easier. Resources.

Yes. Presently, the USA is not safe either. At all. In fact, where I was was not safe. I'm safer in a Vegas 'hood than in Tucson.
My mother said so ALL the time. I was clueless. Now I know. Boy do I know haha! Also, it's literally true, not just perceptually!
