@chriseppstein @briankardell Companies and governments would be at liberty to co-opt and enforce and $$$. Recs: Good. Web Standards: unwise.

@briankardell I will look. After I'm done throwing up. This is too upsetting. I may be realizing that I just don't belong here anymore.

@briankardell I don't want ISO or e3 or EMCA in my W3C recommendations (lookin' at you WCAG 2). It's what keeps the core Web free and open.

@chriseppstein @briankardell Chris has it. And Brian you don't know me for very long. I've been incessant on these issues for decades now.

@chriseppstein @briankardell Technical standards. Manufacturing standards. Standard standards. Web Standards are de facto, except WCAG 2.0.

@briankardell I wasn't involved in authoring standards. I was involved in authoring open, free and recommended technology specifications.
Replying to @briankardell
@briankardell Standards have existed long before Web. Web standards shouldn't ever really be like tech standards lest we obfuscate "open."

@johnoxtonking Instead of standards, I'm moving toward human-first ideals in our projects and processes. That seems relevant and worthwhile.
@johnoxtonking Humanism and the Web go hand in hand for me. I am only interested in human-first technology which is where advocacy plays in.

@jaytem In terms of the Web, not learning from our mistakes is a big concern. We can't even quantify our "mistakes" as we're still so young!

@jaytem Given that, I can honestly say I've reached both humanity and utter foolishness. :D
@johnoxtonking There used to be a broader river between Open Web and Open Source activism. I see much more crossover nowadays, for the good!
Such massive irony in arguing for standards that aren't standards and semantics that aren't meaningful. We are, all of us, foolish children.

@johnoxtonking You know what? I LOVE THAT. Screw the rest. OPEN FOR ALL.
People confuse @W3c RecsNspecs with explicit standards. Web Standards is a misnomer, always was. Now even W3C folk don't get the difference!

Replying to @briankardell
@briankardell Why do you think those are standards? They aren't true standards. Unless you're ISO or ECMA. W3C RECs and SPECs != standards.
Replying to @briankardell
@briankardell Is mine? "Web Standards" is a marketing term, Brian. Specifically to help express to non-professionals some idea of quality.

@sarahebourne Yes, you are, I believe not only correct, but in that tweet just defined life as a quantum process. Wise woman, thou art! :D

@sarahebourne I just am rather horrified at myself. I'm petty, jealous and angry over things I let happen. Me. I don't know why I did that!
