@CharJTF @danachis That's the semantic distinction I tend to rely on: Empathy v. sympathy. Both are important, but they are different.

@Timocracy I feel ya. I now have a housemate for the first time in decades. Fortunately, she's a long-time friend. But it's a big change!
@Timocracy me either! are you all settled now after the big move?
Ah, empathy. It's made me my best and it's also caused me great pain. I sense empaths are born not made. Your thoughts? /@danachis @CharJTF

@Timocracy you back up Tim that's admirable I keep saying I'm going to back stuff up but never do. ;-)

@danachis @CharJTF LOL! what Dana said.
@Timocracy simpler than that. Cause and effect. Something beyond my control occurs. I can then react in myriad ways.

@danachis @dszuc I might be missing some of the conversation but letting go depends on a bit such as "who what when where and why "
@Timocracy ah yes not helpless Tim. what we are not is in control. big difference no?

@TheMacMommy you're so sweet what a generous offer. I'm chilling at home tonight but I do want to visit next time so perhaps we can carpool!

@danachis I find it very interesting to share this. I haven't spoken about it in years. Decades! Those Dana waters run deep, don't they ;)

@danachis Absolutely, I don't blame my Mom. It helped her! It was not yet fully clear that at 13 I was a deeply disturbed, abused child.

@danachis And again, that's long gone - 1976 was a different time, no doubt. It helped my Mom. She innocently thought it would help me.

@danachis This is common knowledge of that time in the group, which was almost cult-like then. It definitely eased up over the years.

@danachis Their teen program in 1976 was indeed very controversial. I was hit, not allowed to pee for hours at a time, not allowed to cry.

@danachis It had several. It helped my Mom. It nearly destroyed me, I was 13. Horrible, abusive experience. Would NEVER be allowed today.

Yes, the moment we realize we control very little or nothing, really, is where a lot of our individuality is defined. / @danachis @dszuc

Rather EST-ian (omg EST) @danachis - But agreed philosophically as in "I am the perfect Molly Esther Holzschlag" (imperfections included!)

Disruption is an aspect of change, not a measure of bad or good per se. I think the way we manage change is key, would you agree? @danachis

Whether self perpetuated or not, change is inherently disruptive. I think more about *reaction* to change. @danachis @berkun
