I'm not going to argue about this. God forbid I should be accused of ruining the Christmas Spirit after 49 years of being told what it is.

Santa is equated with Christmas in the US. No matter the origins, the semiotics are clear. Is Santa lighting the menorah at your synagogue?

God forbid a Jew should point out that Santa Claus does have religious symbolism attached whether the rest of you believe it or not.
