to the techies, sure. But to the consumers, no. "If you buy this iPad you can only use Apple and Apple-approved software"

I think people don't realize how difficult it is to be an educator when there's a lack of agreement in the industry you are representing.

How can people not see these distinctions? I'd feel we're better off if we start calling iOS and proprietary dev something other than Web.

The "Web" itself is free of device-specificity. Transcendent of platform. Of OS. Otherwise, we're developing proprietary software.

Here's the point re iOS. If we are doing device specific design and development, that's not Web design and development. It's not the Web.

But why is there a "mental shift" to mobile? Mobile is not separate. Part o' problem is too few educators, too little time.

I totally get that. But it's not Web design. That's my only point.

That makes total sense. But do you feel that you're really developing for the Web?

It's not that it's so bad. It's just not Web development.

That's not what mah kitteh sez. 'Course, she is still in her teenage years, maybe that explains the threat.

Why are people so fascinated by iOS? My only theory is that people like working in controlled, contained development environments.
