@frankjonen to the techies, sure. But to the consumers, no. "If you buy this iPad you can only use Apple and Apple-approved software"

YES! @keranm - they are Internet apps. Yes. That I can agree with.
I think people don't realize how difficult it is to be an educator when there's a lack of agreement in the industry you are representing.

How about we call them what they are: Apple Apps for Apple products, @frankjonen

How can people not see these distinctions? I'd feel we're better off if we start calling iOS and proprietary dev something other than Web.

Here's a fascinating example of fracture: Windows Phone, to my understanding, will allow external apps. IF THEY ARE BUILT IN SILVERLIGHT.

The "Web" itself is free of device-specificity. Transcendent of platform. Of OS. Otherwise, we're developing proprietary software.

Here's the point re iOS. If we are doing device specific design and development, that's not Web design and development. It's not the Web.

@simonstl But why is there a "mental shift" to mobile? Mobile is not separate. Part o' problem is too few educators, too little time.

@parenteau and are you and yours on high ground there in NC? Hope so!

Replying to @parenteau
@parenteau I totally get that. But it's not Web design. That's my only point.
Replying to @jefflembeck
@jefflembeck That makes total sense. But do you feel that you're really developing for the Web?
1
@LarryABall Yes, and we will be bitching about x-browser issues more and more.
Replying to @seeitdesign
@seeitdesign It's not that it's so bad. It's just not Web development.

@setmajer I knew it had something to do with electricity.

@estherschindler That's not what mah kitteh sez. 'Course, she is still in her teenage years, maybe that explains the threat.
Replying to @shepazu
@shepazu Turtles! I love turtles. Pictures please?
Just stepped on mah kitteh's tail and was told in no uncertain terms "YEEEEEEEEEEE!" I believe this means "you're mine now puny human."

Why are people so fascinated by iOS? My only theory is that people like working in controlled, contained development environments.
