@SailorjX A year. From everything I've read, overheating like that often precedes the problem.

After two days of overheating, I caught the problem finally, killed the Chrome helper process, and within days, this flickering starts.
I hate to blame Chrome, and the flaw might not be their fault at all, but all of this began with the Chrome Helper App sucking my CPU's life

And that would be Ubuntu on a PC. Sad to say, every MacBook Pro has caused me serious FAIL at the most inopportune times.
