That is where the true Open Web "movement" really is now - in keeping that data open, distributed, decentralized, reusable, searchable.

HTML solved the content+hypertext issue. This is key. This is also key because it created a platform for open data.

If you really want to simplify HTML into accurate terms, the focus would be on LINKING DATA via the anchor element.

HTML is more about hypertext capabilities and interoperability to enable extensive data collab between research orgs.
