You just nailed it, @mojoguzzi. Spot-on. If we are too open, how do we fill our own coffers? Old school business. We're learning as we go.
Provide a child with computer and analytical analysis skills. Teach them only within a proprietary system, how does that scale to the world?

Many in US fail to realize is we are just NOW emerging from CDMA! We typically have limited experience in both multi-device design.
I'm a fan of ideas and solutions not things. Never was a material girl. I want everyone to have a fair chance. We forget how blessed we are.
