"XHTML 5" is a nod to XML in the context of HTML serialization, @dboudreau. To my understanding that means writing and serving as valid XML.
@dboudreau HTML5? Just use HTML attributes. "lang" not xml:lang. The exception is if you use the poorly named XHTML5 which is HTML5 as XML.
The World Wide Web was born in a particle physics lab. Doesn't anyone ever feel there's something inherently right about that?

With XHTML 1.0 DOCTYPE sent as text/html that's fine IMNSO @dboudreau. But 1.1 I'd serve as XHTML or use HTML instead.
