@ryanbarr Yep, and it came true with CSS 2.1 support. IE8 in standards mode is a model CSS 2.1 browser.

@starweaver As in Opera Desktop? That's not only a browser. It's also an email, IRC, bitorrent client with a built-in server called Unite.

@shanselman but your joke has real rationale. As I mentioned, there's a "semantic discussion" (we'll call it that) about the use of a11y.

@starweaver yeah, it's a specific case. But people do get confused, and that's in part up to us at Opera to help clarify :)
Stats re: global Web and mobile use around the GLOBE will open eyes to the fact that with our smartphones & broadband, we are the minority.
Mini runs on small handsets & low bandwidth @starweaver. Without mini, many people around the world wouldn't have the Web at /all/.

@starweaver which specifically? I just listed 3 different products! :)
Think about Opera Mini as a viewer, not really a browser. Opera Mobile is a full browser. Opera desktop is a browser, server, etc. etc.

That is specific to Opera Mini, @holaMau, and there are very strong security measures in place. There are very strong reasons we do this.

@shanselman I worry about legacy, but that's no different than today, with IT depts. lagging, underfunded schools/etc. stuck on old OSs.
@mattrobin2010 you know great stuff happens when @stefsull and I get geeky :)
Really? @shanselman - that's a noble guess - 20%+ uptake of IE9, but from those who are already upgraded, yes? And new OEM purchases?
There are lots of reasons Opera is so prominent in the mobile space, @japchap. I could write a doctorate on it, with mass statistics and all

Ha! @shanselman - not an unknown issue. Ask @johnfoliot about that. :P

@anitaborg_org which is the only time I'm not talkin' trash ;)
Replying to @ShawnWildermuth
@ShawnWildermuth @shanselman Oh, no doubt that there will be a significant timeline on this, but isn't there always when it comes to Web?

@tw2113 I'm having a lovely weekend! Thank you for asking. How's about you?
there are most definitely #a11y issues in SVG, @ezufelt. However, since SVG data is in XML (<canvas> is not) SVG lends itself to better a11y

SVG images supported as backgrounds in Opera since 2007! would have to research other browsers. Anyone? /@stefsull
Oh that @estellevw. Making trouble for me as usual ;) - thank you, @screwlewse.
