Now THAT @filip, I agree with completely. "Good designers know, understand and actively work with the medium they're designing for." Amen.

@rowast I'M so sorry you had a root canal! (does that help?)
@dougoftheabaci absolutely, we're not arguing the value of knowledge here, merely the way it plays out in the wide, the web and the world.
Replying to @davidfrey
@davidfrey well, I'd much rather agree than disagree :D
@davidfrey in that scenario, what skillsets do you require?
Replying to @davidfrey
@davidfrey "executing your own design" - agreed! Now you are at the BBC. You must design docs in 33 languages, 6,000 documents a day.
My point, dear friends, is that we've gone far beyond HTML and CSS. Our jobs are very complex, and it's only going to get moreso.

Yes, we must know our medium. And the more we know, the more we are empowered. Think about the WIDE in WWW. It is significant.

@davidfrey No, I'm saying something very different. The idea that HTML and CSS will always be our tools is a very foolish assumption.
I think @zeldman's statement is somewhat true for agency work. But mass web sites? Web apps? These environments demand teamwork.

I love @zeldman. I just don't get how this message is particularly helpful at this point. Great Web sites/apps require many, many skills.
3
This is my take @zeldman "Real web designers work hard to keep skills sharp, work with others, learn daily an share what they learn"

@stellarvisions I know, I call BS, as @kplawver states. I've spent far too many years as an educator on this problem.
It's sort of like saying "Real web designers will always use HTML and CSS" - a limited perspective, no? (Sorry, @zeldman, I just have to! ;)

So "@zeldman: Real web designers write code. Always have, always will" You must have a clearer crystal ball than I. Always is a long time!

@jakubnesetril Unless there's an Apple Store in Prague with a US keyboard on a 13" unibody shell. That'd ROCK. Possible do you think?

@jakubnesetril The MacBook's logic board is fried. @glazou pulled the hard drive and the data is fine, but that's no help without the rest.

@rainycat Alas, no Londinium this time. Paris, Prague, Stockholm, Halmstad, Oslo, Amsterdam (old), Amsterdam (new aka NYC), home. Wshew.
