@JamieLeSouef The difference is that Safari is not specifically tied to the OS, and that its core engine, WebKit is open source.
Update re Microsoft/EU complaint: Finally found a news source (IDG) on blog: http://is.gd/MIGt It sounds harsh, I'll confirm later today.
Too much Twitter FAIL. Stepping out for a little hobble around the lovely French garden and get some dinner.

@burningbird interestingly, I just posted Steven Pemberton's views on "Why XHTML" and he refers to HTML5 as a "monolithic lump" ha!
@burningbird No, excellent commentary. A lot of the same could be said about CSS 2.1 :P

@jacobjohnson For the record, I'm personally involved in HTML5. I was once involved with XHTML. Steven Pemberton is a Very Wonderful Human.
@burningbird That's true. Perhaps someone should address that with whoever did that chart? Do you have a good contact at ORA for that?
The Real "Why XHTML" Discussion with Steven Pemberton - much juicier than the XHTML2 rationale - now here: http://is.gd/MljD

Thanks for the suggestions! As of now, I'm keeping the other post because it's informative. The REAL post is here: http://is.gd/MljD
Steven's answers are MUCH more interesting in the proper file he sent. Not sure if I should leave the other there, what do folks suggest?

ah, the brilliance of genius. Ready for this? Steven sent me the WRONG FILE! The other one is far more detailed. Am publishing now.

@frimmin XML I see many advantages of, as it is a meta-language for other langs/apps. Also, HTML5 allows XML syntax if served as XML.

@kevinmarks That's awesome! Still sorry I missed having a proper chat with you when we ran into each other earlier this year.

@frimmin To be honest, I don't know enough about it to have an opinion. I'm working on CSS3 and HTML5 via my work @opera and learning SVG.

@sharovatov you're welcome! It was your questions that started the whole thing. Thanks for that :)
Folks, please don't shoot me re: the XHTML2 article! Comment to Steven via my blog. It's not my work, it's his, I am simply the messenger :)
Replying to @sharovatov
@sharovatov I take no stand either way. This is what he wrote. Please feel free to use the comment section on my blog to share thoughts!
Remember the XHTML thread earlier this week? As promised, I talked with Steven Pemberton @w3c, here's his take on XHTML2: http://is.gd/Mh9T

@skquinn Awwww. 17 years. That's how long I had my Tara. It's a good life. RIP Mickles kitteh.
@burningbird Hi Shelley, I'm not sure I understand why the chart is inaccurate - It's not by working group, but by feature/implementation.
