@axelator Floating allows flow control between boxes. We use floats/positioning in layout as there is no true CSS layout module implemented.
@bikehugger: Browsers don't validate anything. Validators do :)

IOW, mostly to float image and control text flow. However, floating any element is possible, so it's not "wrong" per se. It's hack-ish, tho.

Whose idea was it to use floats for layout? Early stuff from Eric Costello and Blue Robot but where/when did the idea first come to bear?
