Why shouldn’t the goal of all domestic and international policy be the amelioration of unnecessary suffering? Does anyone really think the world would be worse off? And might it not be better?

Generally speaking, amelioration does not come free, it is always at the cost of someone's suffering.

Although a noble goal, never going to happen as long as mankind's sinful nature exists! Since the beginning, (Adam/Eve, Cain/Able), if God's wisdom/principles were followed, would it have been better? Snollygosters are an impediment to freedom & pursuit of happiness!
