My daughter's English friend is coming to the States for a few days for vacation. On her visa application she was asked for her social media platforms plus who her contact is in the US. Anyone who doesn't think this is concerning isn't concerned enough. #nonotnormal

There’s a visa application just to visit?

It's called an ESTA visa

I’m thinking it’s for National security. There should be no problem

Once we start giving up our privacy in the name of "national security," we will have neither.

Contact in the US is routine. The social media question is new.

We always have to give a contact and address and phone number. For the last six years as a snowbird, I have been asked for this info.

Honest people will put their correct data. Dishonest people and those trying to avoid the government will lie. Since it is easy to search with a good algorithm I am not sure why they are bothering to ask. Feel more ‘make work’ than either scary or useful.

Embarrassing to say the very least, welcome to America.
