Iowa Congressman Steve King tweeted today: "Diversity is not our strength. Hungarian PM Victor Orban, 'Mixing cultures will not lead to a higher quality of life but a lower one.'"This racist tweet repudiates a basic American principle E PLURIBUS UNUM, that out of many we are one.

That kind of fearful thinking in various forms throughout history, never succeeds. In fact, it has always been defeated & as you've accurately stated, is the "raison d'être" of the United States of America -- not to be the divided states. We won't allow it.

It never succeeds ULTIMATELY, but temporarily it has succeeded and even succeeds today in various places of the world. With what's going on now, Americans are naïve or in denial to think it couldn't happen here. Complacency is not an option.

Diversity strengthens our economy, enriches our arts, builds our capacity for innovation, it even brings an amazing array of cuisines to enjoy. And the diversity among my friends has enriched my own life far beyond what a tweet can convey. Mr. King's tweet defiles America!

It's even bigger than any of those things, though. It is a primary first principle of American democracy. This country belongs to all its citizens, not to any one particular group of them.

I respect you a lot. The Constitution still says black slaves are 3/4th human...which still remains in existence TODAY. How American is that? It's still racist and HASN'T changed.
