Our problem is not just the right wing takeover of the US govt; the problem is we're so fatigued, scared by the whole thing, shocked by the assault, that we are tempted to acquiesce. Do NOT acquiesce. Remember abolitionists, suffragettes, and civil rights era. THAT is your legacy

Or, for many, things other than politics - like making a living, cooking dinner, taking kid to sports thing - are just so much more important. Good normal folks getting on with getting on.

I agree that those things are very important, but we should remember how many Germans did exactly those things while ignoring all the Jews being put on trains and taken to concentration camps while they did. Life has many important facets.

I always worry about analogies to Nazism and contemporary era. It diminishes the horror of the Holocaust, and is not respectful, in my view, of those who were murdered. But I hear your point about the need for active citizenship.

As a Jew, I see it completely differently. What dishonors the memory of the Holocaust is to ignore that our President has supported Nazis. NEVER AGAIN is not just words. It means we must look at current circumstances and nip anything in the bud that could lead to similar horrors.
