One of the biggest obstructions to getting America back on track today is the hopelessness & ambivalence many people seem to feel about even trying. An attitude correction is needed here! Americans abolished slavery, got women's suffrage, ended segregation. We can deal with this.

As an Indian immigrant, an outsider perspective - America is a great soceity but lately have got mired in identity politics (I thought only India suffered from it), as a result it has become very polarised even on common issues, no leadership!

We are not attracting leaders to American Politics, the likes of Lincoln, Eisenhower, etc. Obama comes pretty close, history will be the judge. But his elections also brought out the hidden ugly side American polarisation.

Just remember: the shock and awe of it all is strategic. They think we'll feel exhausted, worn down, and just move into an attitude of collective acceptance. We need to hold each other up, shout in each other's ears if necessary, and prepare ourselves inwardly for the long haul.
