The recent attack by the USA 🇺🇸 and UK 🇬🇧 on Yemen 🇾🇪 lacks justification when viewed through the lens of international law. How can these powers justify the bombardment of a sovereign nation that is upholding its international legal obligations? Yemen, by attempting to block the flow of military supplies to a conflict Israel 🇮🇱 , is seen as engaging in preventative measures in line with the Genocide Convention’s mandate. Yet, the USA 🇺🇸 and UK 🇬🇧 have chosen to penalize rather than support such actions.
The USA’s 🇺🇸 rationale, that it is safeguarding maritime routes, rings hollow when those very actions appear to suppress Yemen’s 🇾🇪 efforts to stand against genocide, committed by Israel 🇮🇱 against the Palestinian 🇵🇸 people . It is not the defense of trade routes that is at stake here, but the defense of the stablished international legal order. By attacking Yemen 🇾🇪 , the USA 🇺🇸 and UK 🇬🇧 are not only failing to prevent genocide, they are actively undermining a nation’s exercise of its duties under international law.
What right does the USA 🇺🇸 , a non-signatory of UNCLOS, have to claim the defense of maritime law when it simultaneously defies the conventions designed to uphold peace and prevent genocide? The USA 🇺🇸 and UK’s 🇬🇧 actions are not protective measures but aggressive acts that silence a nation’s legitimate stand against genocide. Such hypocrisy in the application of international law must be challenged and prosecuted, as it erodes the foundation of international peace and security and sets a dangerous precedent for the world
