Private companies should not own public utilities. No one should make a profit on things a community needs in order to thrive. Our forty year orgy of privatization must give way to an appropriate balance between individual economic interests and a concern for the common good.
Pennsylvania passed a law incentivizing private companies to buy publicly-owned water systems. Now residents are seeing their water bills skyrocket. One local official put it bluntly during a hearing today: "People should see privatization for what it really is — a scam."

Leave to a democrat to use the word "orgy" in a tweet...shame on you and your type.

Privitization of water utilities in UK has resulted in horrific pollution, disincentives needed infrastructure investment, has ballooned executive compensation & water prices & prioritised shareholder returns over community health & access to water. Very misguided move by PA!

The privatization trend will not be able to be SEEN as "the Problem" until we have all tried to live under ONE Corporate Mega-Owner that owns everything, all Public Utilities included. By that time, news, free speech, "One Citizen, One Vote" will have all been shut down.

Private money is much more efficient than Govt money.

Wouldn't it be simple in any privatization to make it completely contingent on actually delivering superior results at reduced cost? Funny how that's NEVER specified.

Why doesn’t everyone put hyperlinks to Marianne in their profile? I took all of mine down but it just doesn’t make sense to me 🤦‍♀️

Terrible idea. The government has a horrible track record of running any type of business. Once again fire your economic advisor and get someone that can teach you some basic economics.

Disagree....private companies can own because they'll more efficiently run, however there needs to be strict oversight.

Government, and Government alone, should control the means and distribution of utilities. How very Communist of you! BTW: How did that work out in Flint?

These private water companies usually offer big up front money to cash strapped communities so the communities bite. They almost always raise rates immediately and begin cutting corners so they can to turn a profit. And the private utilities have been working politically
